A discussion between Edward Robinson and Jane Burston which coincides with the launch of Edward's report 'The Menace of Climate Change' which has just been published by the Social Liberal Forum on March 5th.

In the report, Edward argues that we need to accept that there are big gaps opening up between economic reality, ecological reality and official and semi-official plans leaving the world in a collective cognitive dissonance on questions around the long-term survival of economy and ecology. He addresses the specific challenges this situation poses for liberals.

Edward Robinson is an environmental consultant and researcher. He has worked for the UK think tank Green Alliance, for Accenture Strategy and for the European Climate Foundation. He was part of the team that launched the UN Global Compact’s ground-breaking 2013 and 2016 studies on CEO attitudes to sustainability and of that which established the Europe Beyond Coal campaign in 2017.  In 2020, he launched the Economy, Land and Climate Insight website. He also produced the independent report into Net Zero that formed the basis of the Liberal Democrats’ working group and consultation on climate change.

Jane Burston runs the Clean Air Fund, a global philanthropic initiative that supports organisations around the world working to combat outdoor air pollution, improve human health and address climate change. They find, fund and scale projects that provide clean air for all. They share expertise, data and best practice from across sectors and geographies to ensure that clean air can become a reality for everyone.  Previously she worked as Head of Climate and Energy Science in the UK Government and also Head of Energy and Environment at the National Physical Laboratory. She was named as a ‘Young Global Leader’ of the World Economic Forum, as one of the ‘40 under 40 European Young Leaders’ by Friends of Europe and was a previous UK Social Entrepreneur of the year.
