At the 2020 Autumn Conference, the Liberal Democrats voted overwhelmingly to adopt Universal Basic Income as party policy. On 8th May, the official Party Policy Working Group is due to publish a discussion paper, opening a three week consultation window. Join us to discuss "what kind of UBI?" with four people who are perfectly positioned to do it.

We will start with Paul Noblet, chair of the Working Group. Paul will outline the group's process and its recommendations.

We will then hear from three "first responders":

Christine Jardine is MP for Edinburgh West and Liberal Democrat lead on the Cross-Party Parliamentary and Local Government Working Group on UBI.

Jane Dodds is Leader of the Liberal Democrats in Wales, and chair of the Lib Dems for Basic Income campaign group.

Max Ghenis is founder and president of US-based organisation the UBI Center. He is also a member of the Policy Simulation Library's leadership council, and was previously a data scientist at Google. Max has a master's degree in Data, Economics, and Development Policy from MIT and a bachelor's degree in operations research from UC Berkeley. SLF has commissioned a report from Max and his team outlining a possible model of UBI for the UK, which will be published shortly before the event.

The event is being held virtually and you will receive the log in details from the SLF Zoom channel in due course. For this to work, we need you to agree to sign up for email updates by ticking the box if you want to attend.  We are sorry but if you do not do this, you will not register successfully.  You will also receive details of other SLF activities and, of course, you are able to unsubscribe at any time (but please do not do so until this event is over). The SLF Privacy policy can be found here.
