We are delighted to have Vince Cable and Frances O'Grady to discuss the priorities for a new economy.  The pandemic has exposed both existing weaknesses in the UK economy and new ones directly related to it.  In other cases it has accelerated existing trends internationally and locally.  Now is the time to consider priorities as the vaccination programme begins in the UK.

Vince Cable is a former Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, leader of the Liberal Democrats, and MP for Twickenham. He has previously worked as the Treasury Finance Office for the Kenyan Government and as Shell International’s Chief Economist, and is currently a visiting professor at the London School of Economics. He specialises in developing markets and international economic relations.

Frances O’Grady is the General Secretary of the TUC. She has previously worked for the Transport and General Workers Union, where she campaigned for the introduction of a national minimum wage and equal pay. At the TUC, she has worked on industrial policy, and the case for a strategic rebalancing of the economy after the 2008 financial crash.

Sue Wixley, SLF Council Member, will chair this event.
