I am a candidate for Federal Policy Committee. It's the first time I stand for any federal committee and I am only standing for FPC. I also don't hold any party office so if elected to FPC that would be my priority (after on the ground campaigning to make sure MPs and councillors are re-elected).
I think I bring a fairly unique combination to FPC including:
- high level experience of policy making (as an MEP), in particular in health, environment & youth policy
- international outlook & understanding of where national & EU policies intersect
- political/campaigning experience gained mostly in Yorkshire so good understanding of how thing play outside Westminster
- ability to deal constructively with differences of opinion and find consensus
I want FPC to:
- be bold, practical and progressive
- come up with serious policies for real democratic devolution across the UK
- think more about young people and diverse communities in policy making
- have a green thread running through its policies
